Paper Marbling Class for Two

Two participants in this 1-day workshop will learn two methods of paper marbling, one with acrylic and watercolor pigment manipulated on a thick size, the other a Japanese technique of floating inks on water.  Both yield a multitude of undulating patterns and decoration.  You will learn the basics of materials and techniques and spend the majority of the day making your own marbled papers.  All materials provided.  

Saturday, June 4, 2016, 10am-4pm at the Virginia Arts of the Book Center, 2125 Ivy Road, Suite 5, Charlottesville.  

Participants must be in at least 9th grade to participate.  Class is taught by Lindsey Mears.

Pottery Workshop for Beginners

Winner's option between two great classes.  Pick between Throwing for Beginners or Hand-Building for Beginners.

Immerse yourself in a two-day pottery workshop that will feel like summer camp. No interruptions, just a time and place to learn, and build new skills in the company of others who will be learning too. Includes refreshments and surface design materials. Clay can be purchased or you can bring your own (cone 6 electric kiln firings). To insure space in this workshop, the recipient must register as soon as possible.

Wheel Throwing for Beginners with Steve Palmer:  The focus will be on the basic skills needed for throwing on the wheel: wedging, centering, opening pulling walls, shaping and trimming. You will also choose from a variety of decorative techniques for finishing your work. Date: Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 Time: 9-4. 

OR

Hand-Building for Beginners with Randy Bill:  The focus will be primarily on slab construction and exciting surface design techniques.  Date:  July 16 and 17 Time:  9-4.
